The Austin Foundation Joins Forces with the University of Michigan to Promote Racial and Ethnic Dialogues Among Youth

The Austin Foundation proudly announces its partnership with the University of Michigan's Youth Dialogues on Race and Ethnicity in Metropolitan Detroit, starting in the summer of 2024. This program is designed to bridge gaps by fostering meaningful dialogues on race and ethnicity among high school youth from diverse communities across the metropolitan Detroit area.

Participants from various racial and ethnic backgrounds, including those of African, Asian, European, Middle Eastern, and Latin American descent, will engage in conversations facilitated by youth and adults. These dialogues are structured to begin within similar racial or ethnic groups and eventually expand to include cross-cultural discussions.

Cydney Hill, Director of The Austin Foundation, has a personal connection to the Youth Dialogues program, having participated in its sessions during her own youth. The profound impact of these dialogues on her perspective and approach to diversity initiatives has been a catalyst for her leadership in ensuring similar opportunities are accessible today. "My experience with the Youth Dialogues was transformative, it shaped my understanding of our shared and distinct experiences. This partnership reflects our commitment to empowering our youth to navigate and discuss complex issues of race and ethnicity with confidence and empathy," Cydney stated.

The Austin Foundation's mission is deeply aligned with the goals of the Youth Dialogues program, striving to provide educational resources, and foster an environment where young individuals feel empowered to discuss, learn, and grow in understanding each other. This partnership not only enhances our educational outreach but also strengthens our community's fabric by promoting inclusivity and mutual respect.
