The Austin Foundation Joins the CSforDetroit Out-of-School Time Collective
Expanding Digital Literacy Pathways for Detroit's Next Generation
The Austin Foundation is proud to announce that we have joined the CSforDetroit Out-of-School Time (OST) Collective, a growing network of organizations working together to expand access to computer science and STEM learning opportunities for young people across Detroit.
This partnership represents an important step forward in our mission to provide educational resources, services, and programs that empower youth to succeed in school, careers, and life.
As part of the CSforDetroit OST Collective, The Austin Foundation will collaborate with fellow youth-serving organizations throughout Metro Detroit to strengthen technology education opportunities, share best practices, and connect young people to future-ready skills and career pathways. The Collective was created to support organizations that are helping students deepen their understanding of computer science and STEM while increasing access for communities that have historically been underrepresented in technology fields.
Strengthening Our NextGen Digital Literacy Program
Joining the Collective aligns directly with our NextGen Digital Literacy Program, which helps students build the knowledge and confidence needed to thrive in today's digital world.
Through NextGen, youth explore:
Technology fundamentals and digital confidence
Digital literacy and digital citizenship
Computer science and coding fundamentals
Career exploration and workforce readiness
Problem-solving through technology
Artificial intelligence (AI) awareness and practical applications
Creative and entrepreneurial uses of technology
We believe that technology education is no longer optional. It is essential. As technology continues to shape how we learn, work, and connect, young people deserve opportunities to become creators, innovators, and leaders, not just consumers of technology.
Building Detroit's Future Together
CSforDetroit is a multi-year initiative designed to expand access to culturally responsive computer science education and prepare Detroit students for success in college, careers, and life. The initiative brings together schools, community organizations, educators, industry leaders, and students to create stronger pathways into technology and innovation.
By joining the OST Collective, The Austin Foundation is strengthening its commitment to ensuring that Detroit youth have access to meaningful learning experiences beyond the classroom. Together, we can create more opportunities for students to discover their passions, develop valuable skills, and prepare for the careers of tomorrow.
Looking Ahead
We are excited to work alongside the CSforDetroit community and fellow OST Collective partners to expand access to technology education throughout Detroit.
The future belongs to those who can adapt, create, and innovate. Through partnerships like this, we are helping ensure that Detroit's next generation is ready to lead.
